What’s New for the Culex?

Now Offering Pause and Stat Options For Culex® Blood Sampler
BASi is now offering both Pause and Stat options as standard on all new Culex APS units being sold. The Pause innovation allows the technician to pause at any point and then at any time resume exactly where he or she left off. The Stat option allows one blood collection every time the technician pushes a button – at any point before, during or after a method. It can be used to take pre-dose samples, try again for missed samples and to add a sample at the end of a study.

The Pause and Stat software is also available as an add-on to all those Culex units currently in use in laboratories around the world.

MD-1202 Large Volume Fraction Collector
The new large volume fraction collector is designed to collect up to 26 blood samples and keep them refrigerated at 4 °C. The large volume collector can be used in place of the standard Culex fraction collector to collect blood samples ranging from 50 to 800 microliters. Software upgrades are required in order to use the large volume collector. Please contact BASi to inquire about upgrades.

CX-1600 Dual Species Cage
A new cage was developed in response to customers who requested another option for rats housed on the Culex APS or Raturn movement responsive caging system. A coated metal pan was created to replace the grid bottom in the standard Culex metabolic cage during studies in which metabolic wastes were not required. This same pan was then found to be useful for automated blood sampling in mice, when it was moved to a higher position in the same standard cage. This new cage retains the grid floor to provide an option for collecting metabolic wastes (rats) and to provide added stability during washing, or when the pan is raised for use with mice. solid bottom cage floor. CX-1207 Culex Extended Feeder Accessory (Metabolic Cage only)
Need to feed your test subject over several days, or a weekend, or just conduct a study in which you don’t want to disturb him/her as you refill the food bin? Try the extended feeder accessory. This device slides into the standard tray on the Culex metabolic cage and increases the overall height. It doesn’t interfere with cage movement of adjacent cages and it will provide at least 3 day of food for an active adult rat. CX-1208 Culex Doodad Tray
What kind of things do you always need when you are installing or removing test subjects on the Culex? The list would include nippers, forceps, hemostats, a vial of catheter plugs, a sharpie, a roll of lab tape, some 19 gauge blunt tip needles, a few 3 cc syringes, some 25 gauge needles, and some extra collars. Where do you put all of these doodads? We ’re using the Culex “doodad” tray. It fits securely on either side of the cart, onto any of the deep support brackets that hold the shelves. No mounting hardware required - it slides on and holds tight. This is extremely handy -- a place to put all of those bits and pieces that you’re constantly using in a place where you can reach them when you have the most need.
